The Dangers of Discord Sex Chat

The internet has never been more pornographic. Discord, the popular chat platform, offers a wide variety of servers with a large number of boned up strangers who are willing to share your most explicit fantasies. Discord requires users to be at least 13 years old to create accounts, but kids younger than that still sign up, and predators aren’t far behind.

There’s a section of the platform that is dedicated to sexting, and other sexually explicit material. Sinner’s Lair is a server that features women and men into dirty roleplaying, hardcore fetish and non-vanilla sexuality. This sort of server, along with others that feature nudity, have garnered the attention of media outlets and law enforcement agencies as they’ve been linked to sex trafficking and sexual abuse.

Discord has taken action in the past to ban certain types of content, but it’s easy for predators to access children on the platform since profiles aren’t connected to identities and most users don’t use their real names. This has led to the platform being associated with sex abuse and child trafficking.

Parents should discuss the dangers associated with Discord with their teens, even if they are older than 13. Teach them to be suspicious of invites from servers they didn’t request or know about, and to reject friend requests that come out of the blue. They should be aware that anonymity on the internet can lead them to inappropriate behavior and cyber-bullying, regardless of their age.
